I was a mehndi artist from 1994 to 2003. My experience spans from painting the public at volunteer festivals about India to being resident mehndi artist at salons, weddings, and parties. In 1997-98, I was employed at the Spa Biba in Jenkintown, PA and intermittently held many mehndi demonstrations and served as an artist at several weddings. I have held mehndi demonstrations on various dates at Borders Books and Music in Wilmington, DE (8/97, 2/28/98, and 8/16/98), as well as a demonstration at the Bibelot Bookstore in Bel Air, Maryland (4/98). I performed other mehndi applications for the Indo-American Association of Delaware, the Opera Delaware Theater Company, and the South Asian Association and the Students to Free Tibet at Harvard University. On Wednesday, October 29, 1997, I appeared on the FOX-29 television show Good Day, Philadelphia, and my website was featured as an "incredibly useful site" on the ZdTV (DirecTV channel 273) program Internet Tonight. Photographs of my mehndi artwork were featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer Magazine (November 9, 1997), the Wilmington News Journal (photographs published on two separate dates), and for a publication by the Community Newspaper Corporation. My design has also been purchased for use for Clairol advertisements. I am no longer an active henna artist though may be available for private events in the mid-atlantic Philadelphia region. |
